The Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC) invites you to partner with us to promote the role that we all play in infection prevention.
International Infection Prevention Week (IIPW), part of the Infection Prevention and You campaign, helps patients, families, and healthcare professionals better understand their role in preventing infections. This year IIPW, October 15-21, 2017, will focus on the problem of antibiotic resistance, and provide actions that patients, healthcare providers, government groups, and others can take to reduce the threat of antibiotic resistance.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, each year in the United States, at least 2 million people become infected with bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics and at least 23,000 people die each year as a direct result of these infections. A growing list of infections are becoming harder to treat as antibiotics become less effective. The World Health Organization has declared antibiotic resistance one of the biggest global health threats facing the world today.
To kick off the campaign, APIC has created a robust website with tips, checklists, and other resources to download and share, including infographic posters that clearly and simply outline the steps that patients can take to support infection prevention efforts in healthcare facilities and reduce their risk of infection. We hope you will join APIC in partnering on this important public awareness initiative by sharing infection prevention messages in your blogs, on social media, in eNewsletters, etc.!
Be sure to let us know that you are a partner so we can recognize you on this page!
Thank you again for joining APIC in this important awareness event. We appreciate your continued support for the seven days of IIPW and all year long.
